Report Writing

WALT: Write an informational report Russia Russia, the biggest country in the world. Located in the east of the Northern hemisphere. This is a country of grace and beauty. Russia holds many myths and legends but Russia is a misunderstood country. It is always the big blue country on the map, wouldn’t you like to know what hides behind the biggest country in the world? This report will tell you all the information you need to know. From the biggest country in the world’s population to its artistic language. Shall we begin? good , then let’s go. . . . . Let’s start with some of Russia’s amazing native animals: these animals are extremely dangerous. Our first one is the Amur Tiger. In 2007 the Amur Tiger (Or otherwise known as the Man Eater) was near extinction but thankfully with conservation and animal lovers these Man Eaters have been saved and have a great strong population once more. If you hate snakes be ready for this next animal, the Deadly Common Northern Viper! One bite from this venomous beast and you could end up with a serious brain injury for life with it’s toxic venom or even death if not treated within 5 hours. If you weigh under 60 kgs this viper can swallow you right up. To add one more to this freaky list we will finish off with the one, the only, tick! These tiny but ferocious creatures were born to kill. If you travel to Russia you have to get a special antidote so you don’t get their venomous virus. Now shall we move onto something else before I put you off Russia with all of it’s deadly native animals. Good; then let us go. Now wouldn’t you think the biggest country in the world has the biggest population in the world? Well in fact you are wrong, this is common mistake a lot of people make. China has the biggest population in the world with 10 times more than Russia’s population, and China is 5 times smaller than Russia. So Russia is not a crowded country. On average 56.8 million deaths occur each year but with also 135.6 million births each year, this brings Russia’s population to 189.6 million! I know it is a lot of people, but most people are equally spread out. Did you know that Russia is 17.6 million square kilometers. It is so big it is part of two continents Asia (The world’s biggest continent) and Europe (The world’s smallest continent). Russia may be the world’s biggest country but population wise it comes ninth on top ten most populated countries in the world list. Now that you know about Russia’s beautiful but dangerous animals and it’s small population for it’s size let’s move on to the art of the Russian language. Russia: just like a lot of Asian countries has it’s own stunning language. 144 million people out of the population of 189.6 million speak Russian. It is really great that so many locals speak the native language. The Russian language is believed to be the language of space, in fact if you are planning to become an astronaut you must be able to, or learn to speak fluent Russian. This reason being everything in the rocket is in Russian for it is the language of space. The Russian language is very challenging to learn even though it only contains 200,000 words people who learn it must have a long focus for one activity and be up for a challenge. Russian is the most commonly spoken language throughout Asia, and the seventh most common spoken language in the world. Russian is the fifth most beautiful language in the whole world, some Russians even today worship the language. Some say the Russian language is an art, a very difficult one to master. Now just our final topic, the Russian culture. Russia is a country of culture, with many superstitions and a brilliant cuisine. One of Russia’s most famous desserts is Syrniki, which is rich fluffy Russian pancakes, commonly served with freshly whipped cream. Another well known Russian dish is Beef Stroganoff, which is a traditional Russian lasagna with mushrooms. Russians are into their local produce. Every Wednesday evening most towns in Russia have a local market where all the food is locally grown, along with handmade souvenirs and children’s toys. Next let’s look at some superstitions, in Russia it is believed if you talk or boast about your success the next time you enter some sort of competition you will have very bad luck and will not win anything. Another commonly believed one is that if you give someone a wallet or purse without a small donation of money in it the receiver will have big financial problems for the rest of their lives. The last superstition we will be looking at is, that if you lick food off a knife you will become a cruel, evil person within the next year or two. Now lastly we shall look at some Christmas traditions. For Christmas as most people know, it’s the twelve days of Christmas but in Russia it is the forty days of Christmas! Also Russians’ celebrate Christmas on the 7th of January, not the 25th of December. Prince Vladimir first introduced Russia to Christmas Day, and their christian community believed that the birthday of Jesus Christ was in the 7th of January. On the 25th of December ( Our Christmas Day ) Russians’ have a pre-Christmas celebration where families and friends get together and prepare and wrap gifts for Christmas day, and get the meals organised as well. This is a community event that most Russians take part in. Well this brings us to end. Russia is a brilliant country full of culture and cuisine. Very different to our country but unique it’s own special way just like every other country in this mega sized world. Also one day, if you ever go to Russia watch out for those Common Northern Vipers. This term Te Ngahere has been learning to write informational reports. We each chose one country to do a report about, then we chose 3 subtopics to go in our report. After planning our story we could start write our draft. My country was Russia, for my subtopics I chose: native animals, population and traditions. It was really fun and interesting learning about different cultures, Te Ngahere learnt a lot.
